The Walnut Grove Student Garden is open to all students during their lunch recess every Tuesday. Students are invited to help in the garden by weeding, watering, planting, harvesting, and tasting. We always appreciate help from other parents to direct and help the children. If your child comes to the garden regularly, please consider helping out a couple times this year. No garden experience is required, and we do not expect a weekly commitment! For more information, please contact:

The Running Club meets every Friday morning at 7:30 am, beginning with the first week of school. All grades are welcome, and moms, dads, and even grandparents are encouraged to join in the fun. Participants stretch for a few minutes at the beginning of each club meeting and then spend 20 minutes running and walking around the blue line on the playground. At the end, each person's laps are recorded. Fun charms are given for distance running, as well as for attendance. The Run Club participants gather at the picnic tables near the garden. (Note: Run Club meetings are cancelled in the event of rain.) For more information about the Run Club, please contact:

The Science Club is open to 4th and 5th graders at Walnut Grove. Led by high school students from Amador Valley High School’s Science for Youth (SciFY) club, the Science Club focuses on engaging students with interactive science activities and bringing science learned in the classrooms to aspects of everyday life. During the weekly meetings, students participate in many fun experiments, including making catapults with everyday items, building structures out of pretzels and marshmallows, isolating DNA from strawberries, making sound with bottles, modeling crater impact with rocks and flour, and playing with Non-Newtonian fluids. They also learn about topics such as electricity, states of matter, cell anatomy, physics, optics, and pH. At the end of the year, the club members participate in an Elementary Science Olympiad competition with students from other Pleasanton schools.
